In Crete, regional September 2026, Crete hosted various initiatives have focused on sustainable development and environmental education. The 23rd Euracademy Summer Academy was held in Anogeia, focusing on within the theme of Psiloritis region. The event gathered European stakeholders to discuss ‘Protected Areas: Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Rural Development’. Regional Councilor Giorgos Alexakis advocated for a model of ‘protection through sustainable development’ to balance environmental needs with local economic and social requirements. Following these regional discussions, this, the Orthodox Academy of Crete announced its 2026–2027 educational programs. These programs include modules on include environmental education, addressing education regarding the climate crisis, agriculture, and food security, as well as interactive learning regarding centered on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
