Sustainable material and waste innovation in Argentina

Overview

In Argentina, student-led innovations have focused on repurposing waste into sustainable materials. In Catamarca, students developed ‘Ecopenca’, a waterproof vegetable leather made from prickly pear pads. The Instituto de Pensiones Sociales (IPS) in Argentina launched a three-month program to teach the production of mango bio-leather from fruit residues, aiming to provide entrepreneurs with ecological alternatives for footwear and clothing production.
