From early June through ~~mid-August~~ late August 2026, Sweden’s major road network has been repeatedly affected by wildlife encounters, vehicle breakdowns, oil spills, and collisions. June saw oil spills on the E4 near Väderstad and on the northern E10, while deer and elk warnings were issued for the E4, E18, E20, E22 and regional routes. Mid-June to mid-July traffic slowed on the E4, E18 and several secondary roads due to stationary cars, multi-vehicle crashes, and fallen trees. In August, disruptions continued with reports of a truck stuck under the Beckershov bridge and a container fall on the E22 at Kårtorp. On 9 August, Trafikverket issued warnings for moose on the E4 between Pitsund S and Lappnäset, and between Jävre N and Högsböle. Localized issues also included a stationary vehicle on road 97 and an overflowing road on road 744. By 16 August, congestion was reported on the E4 near Märsta, Rosersberg, Vendel, Björklinge, and the Arlanda interchange due to stationary vehicles. An elk on or near the roadway impacted E4 traffic toward Norrköping between Åby and Loddby. On the E22, single-vehicle accidents caused delays between Holmtebo and Kårtorp toward Västervik, and near Sköner in Valdemarsvik. Additionally, heavy rain warnings were issued for northern Uppland, and a combine harvester fire occurred in Sämsta near Uppsala. On 24 August, a serious accident on the E18 between the Brottby and Söderhall interchanges involved a truck crashing through a guardrail and colliding with three passenger cars. The incident caused a total closure in both directions due to vehicle damage and a diesel ~~leak.~~ leak; one person was trapped and rescued, and a truck driver was hospitalized. Meanwhile, the E22 in Lund was scheduled to reopen following a two-week closure for expansion work involving the installation of three new bridges.
