Taiwan e-cigarette recycling initiatives

Local health authorities in Taiwan have launched e-cigarette recycling programs in response to proposed amendments to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. These legislative changes aim to expand penalties to include the mere possession of e-cigarettes, with potential fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$100,000.

To assist the public during this transition, several regions have established anonymous disposal points. In Keelung City, the Health Bureau set up eight recycling locations, including district health centers, to help residents dispose of products without providing personal information. The city is also implementing education and monitoring to prevent youth access.

Similar initiatives have been adopted in other areas. The Lienchiang County Health Bureau organized a month-long program across the Matsu islands, while the Nantou County Health Bureau placed recycling bins in 13 townships. These efforts are intended to provide a buffer period for citizens to dispose of existing products before new regulations are finalized by the Legislative Yuan.
