Taiwan heat alerts and storm warnings as Typhoon Dolphin ne‑

Entities: Central Weather Bureau (Taiwan) · Central Weather Bureau · Taiwan · Typhoon Dolphin (白海豚) · Philippines

Overview

Meteorologists continued to monitor Typhoon Dolphin (White Dolphin) as it approached Taiwan. After the Central Weather Bureau issued heat advisories for 32‑35 °C conditions on August 1 and placed 11 counties under high‑temperature alerts by August 5, the storm’s outer rain bands began to affect the island. On August 6 the cyclone was about 1,360 km east of Taiwan, moving west toward the Ryukyu Islands, with the highest risk of a sea‑area warning for Taiwan’s north‑eastern waters from August 8‑10. Forecasts called for widespread showers, local heavy rain and possible flash‑flooding in northern and central mountain areas, while strong winds and long‑wave seas were expected along the coast. Temperatures remained high at 32‑36 °C with strong UV radiation.

Airlines responded with further cancellations: Tigerair Taiwan withdrew six flights to Okinawa on August 6 and additional services on August 7; EVA Air cancelled two flights on August 6 and all Okinawa services on August 7. More than ten Taiwanese property‑insurance firms extended the suspension of new overseas travel‑inconvenience policies for trips to Japan (Okinawa, Kyushu, Shikoku) for the period 6‑8 August. Authorities urged the public to monitor updates, avoid coastal activities during the warning period, and prepare for heavy rain, strong winds and flash‑flood hazards.

Nearby systems Typhoon Kujira and Typhoon Chan‑hom remained active but were not expected to impact Taiwan’s weather.
