The Executive Yuan responded by amending the Food Safety Act to tighten source‑control, raise self‑testing frequencies for high‑risk producers and require centrally approved monitoring plans before plants can resume operations. Local officials in Yilan County also pledged stronger enforcement and additional inspection funding.

A draft report released on 28 July by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Food and Drug Administration linked the same oil to school‑lunch programs in Hsinchu City, where 41 barrels (batch 20270416000403) had been used at 16 primary and secondary schools in May. The city education department convened principals, notified parents and coordinated with the Taiwan Consumer Protection Association, which has initiated litigation against Zhonglian and three other oil firms—Tai Shan, Fu Shou and Fu Mao—on behalf of affected students and families.

Dr. Su Weishuo of the National Food Safety Alliance condemned the investigation for ignoring a century‑long risk‑analysis framework and called the government's food‑safety system a failure, demanding a public apology and compensation for victims. The report also criticised relaxed inspection standards for Brazilian soybeans and the exclusion of benzo[a]pyrene from existing risk assessments, reinforcing calls for stricter oversight and accountability.

Food‑safety experts continue to press the government for comprehensive reforms, compensation, and a transparent review of the systemic failures that allowed the contamination to reach school meals.
