Tamaulipas regional development and tourism
Overview
The state of Tamaulipas is engaging in various initiatives focused on infrastructure and regional promotion. The state will host the 2026 National Infrastructure Congress, ‘Connection and Development for Mexico,’ in Ciudad Victoria. This event aims to facilitate collaboration between the government, private sector, and financial institutions regarding road and water infrastructure, including a critical panel on the expansion of Bridge III in Nuevo Laredo.
In addition to infrastructure, the state is expanding its focus on local industry and tourism. During the Feria Tamaulipas 2026, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya detailed significant investments in the livestock and ranching sectors. The government has allocated approximately 545 million pesos over the last four years to support these industries, with a focus on maintaining sanitary export status through the control of bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis, and the screw-worm fly.
Specific efforts to add value to meat products include the potential establishment of a balanced feed plant and the strengthening of the TIF slaughterhouse at the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas. Future plans involve expanding refrigeration and meat cutting capabilities, as well as developing a TIF slaughterhouse for small species to assist primary producers in increasing economic benefits. Furthermore, the Genetic Improvement Program 2026, held as part of the Tamaulipas Fair, concluded with a 16 million peso investment. This program benefited 536 producers across 29 municipalities by providing 50 percent subsidies for the acquisition of high-quality genetic specimens, including bovine, ovine, and caprine animals.
Additionally, the Secretary of Economy is promoting the mezcal industry through the ‘Tamaulipas, Tierra de Agave’ program, supporting producers in municipalities such as San Carlos, San Nicolás, and Miquihuana.
