The tourism rebound in Tamaulipas has accelerated significantly, with summer visitor numbers climbing to over 2.3 million people, representing a 25.12% increase and generating an economic impact exceeding 2.2 billion pesos. To manage this growth, the state is focusing on infrastructure and strategic monitoring. Tourism Secretary Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez is utilizing data from the new Tula-Mante-Ocampo highway to refine promotion campaigns. In Tampico, authorities and the Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) are preparing to expand road capacity at the Tampico International Airport to three lanes in both directions to reduce congestion. Expanding its strategic focus, Tamaulipas is positioning itself as a destination for MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions). During participation in IBTM Americas 2026 in Mexico City, the state highlighted its hotel capacity, security, and connectivity to connect with international event organizers and specialized buyers. To further bolster this sector, the state has implemented the ‘Colmenas Creativas’ program. This initiative provides training and tools to design profitable tourism products—such as cultural, gastronomic, and local identity-based routes—that complement large-scale events like congresses and conventions. The program aims to transform ideas into professional offerings through teamwork and technology. State officials also continue to promote diverse coastal destinations. Playa Miramar in Ciudad Madero is being highlighted for its status as the only certified inclusive beach in the Gulf of Mexico, while Playa La Pesca in Soto la Marina is being marketed for ecotourism, including mangrove tours and seasonal Kemp’s ridley sea turtle nesting activities. By the summer of 2026, the sector reached new milestones, with over 5 million visitors—a 20.34% increase over 2025—generating an economic impact of more than 4.693 billion pesos. Key destinations included Ciudad Madero, Tampico, Soto la Marina, Altamira, and Nuevo Laredo.
