Tamil Nadu administrative and infrastructure initiatives
Overview
The Tamil Nadu government has initiated several administrative and infrastructure projects. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay introduced a resolution in the Assembly urging the Union Government to recognize Tamil as the principal language of the Madras High Court, facilitating the use of the language for petitions, arguments, and judgments.
Simultaneously, the state has moved forward with plans to construct a new integrated Assembly-cum-Secretariat complex in Chennai. Estimated to cost ₹1,200 crore, the 20 lakh square foot facility is planned for a site in the Foreshore Estate area of Mylapore. A Government Order has been issued to proceed with the project, which aims to consolidate government departments and allow the historic Fort St George to be conserved as a heritage structure. The Public Works Department is tasked with submitting a detailed project report within three months.
