Tamil Nadu government job age limit relaxation

Overview

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a five-year increase in the upper age limit for direct recruitment to government services through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC). The decision applies to Group I, Group II, Group II-A, and Group IV examinations.

For Group I posts, the upper age limit for general category candidates rises from 32 to 37 years, while limits for reserved categories, including BC, MBC, SC, and ST communities, increase from 37 to 42 years. For Persons with Disabilities (PwD), the general category limit moves from 42 to 47 years, and the reserved category limit moves from 47 to 52 years. For Group II and Group II-A posts, the general category limit increases from 30 to 35 years.

The relaxation is intended to provide more opportunities for graduates and addresses demands from aspirants following a period between 2001 and 2006 when new appointments were frozen. The revised norms are scheduled to remain in force until October 2031.
