Tamil Nadu political rhetoric disputes

Political tensions in Tamil Nadu have intensified following accusations regarding the nature of political discourse. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister S. Ramesh has accused the DMK of fostering a political culture characterized by “obscene, derogatory, and defamatory speech,” claiming such behavior is part of the party’s “DNA.” Ramesh specifically criticized Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for failing to maintain party discipline and targeted Udhayanidhi Stalin for making disparaging remarks against ministers.

In response to these tensions, TVK MLA Kanimozhi Santhosh condemned the use of personal attacks against the Chief Minister, arguing that while policy criticism is democratic, personal insults lack civility. Ramesh further stated that the government would pursue legal action against those making disparaging comments about the Chief Minister, women, or the public.

Reinforcing these accusations, Minister Ramesh spoke to reporters in Tiruchi, reiterating that the DMK fosters a culture of abusive speech and criticizing the leadership for encouraging such conduct. Addressing law and order concerns, Ramesh dismissed allegations from AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding crimes against women, attributing such issues to systemic failures from the previous five years of administration.
