Tamil Nadu temple regulation updates
Overview
The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has introduced new regulations for major temples to preserve sanctity and prevent disruptions to devotees.
Initial measures included restricting VIP visits by requiring officials to be notified at least one day in advance. These guidelines mandate providing specific visit times and group sizes, while strictly prohibiting unauthorized photography and limiting accompanying personnel to essential staff only. Additionally, the department ordered large-scale cleaning drives for temple premises.
Following these measures, the department announced a complete ban on mobile phones in all major temples, effective September 1. To implement this, temple administrations must establish secure deposit facilities where devotees can leave devices for a nominal fee. These facilities will be monitored by CCTV and integrated into the temple management system.
