Tanzania container depot and port logistics management
Overview
The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) has taken steps to manage logistics and container storage following a significant surge in cargo volume at the Dar es Salaam Port. In late August 2026, TASAC suspended the issuance of new licenses for Inland Container Depots (ICD) due to public complaints regarding urban congestion and increased truck traffic. Director General Mohamed Salum noted that the authority is assessing existing facilities, some of which have exceeded their storage capacities.
By late September 2026, the focus shifted toward infrastructure expansion. TASAC began investigating the expansion of dry port operations into the Temeke Municipal Council within Dar es Salaam. This initiative involves discussions with municipal leadership regarding land allocation across several wards, such as Azimio, Buza, and Mtoni, while excluding areas already designated for industrial or port-related purposes.
