Tauste double homicide investigation

Overview

On August 8, 2026, the bodies of Javier Sánchez and Esther Latorre were discovered in their home in Tauste, Zaragoza. The victims, aged between 60 and 67, showed signs of violence consistent with injuries from a bladed weapon. Sánchez was a prominent figure in the Aragonese agricultural sector, having served as the Secretary General of the Unión de Agricultores y Ganaderos de Aragón (UAGA) for twelve years, while Latorre was a known advocate for rural women’s rights.

Following the discovery, the Guardia Civil arrested the victims’ eldest daughter, Carlota Sánchez, and her partner, Luis Carlos R., a 30-year-old Colombian national. On August 13, both suspects were placed in provisional prison. While both individuals exercised their right to remain silent during questioning, new investigative details have emerged.

Authorities are exploring motives including family tensions related to Carlota Sánchez’s pregnancy and the influence of her partner. Investigators are also scrutinizing the relationship between the suspects; reports indicate Luis Carlos R. may have attempted to secure a false alibi through a mistress, who has since cooperated with the investigation. Furthermore, security camera footage reportedly contradicts the suspects’ version of events, showing them traveling in the early hours of the morning following the crime.

By August 15, investigators had officially ruled out robbery as a motive, shifting the focus toward potential family conflicts or emotional and sentimental motives. Preliminary findings from the forensic analysis suggest that Javier Sánchez died first, followed by Esther Latorre as she attempted to flee down a staircase.
