Taxi driver assault in Paros

Overview

A violent altercation occurred in Naoussa, Paros, between a taxi driver and a 70-to-71-year-old car rental employee following a dispute over parking space usage. Video footage of the incident, which showed the driver allegedly grabbing the elderly man by the neck and throwing him against a vehicle, circulated widely on social media.

In response to the incident, the taxi driver’s employer terminated his employment, stating the dismissal was “a one-way street” due to the company’s stance against violence. The Taxi Association of Paros also condemned the behavior.

The victim, who sustained injuries to his face and body, has sought legal action and filed a complaint. The driver faces charges for causing dangerous bodily harm. While the driver expressed regret and claimed the employee was verbally abusive and struck him with a helmet first, the victim has declined to forgive him, requesting a public apology to the community and tourists who witnessed the event.
