Teatro alla Scala 2026-2027 season announcements

Overview

Teatro alla Scala has announced its upcoming 2026-2027 season, which will be presented in New York for the second consecutive year. The program, presented at the Consulate General of Italy, includes works such as Vincenzo Bellini’s ‘I puritani’ and Ferdinando Paer’s ‘Leonora’, alongside dedicated concert and ballet seasons.

The opera season is scheduled to open on December 7, 2026, with a new production of Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Otello’. This production marks the debut of Myung-Whun Chung as the theater’s musical director and Damiano Michieletto for his first season opening at the venue. The cast features Brian Jagde as Otello, Luca Salsi as Jago, and Eleonora Buratto as Desdemona.

The opening date also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first La Scala broadcast by Rai in 1976, which also featured ‘Otello’.
