Telangana water infrastructure and supply management
Overview
The Telangana government has initiated several measures to manage and improve water supply and infrastructure. In early October, the state approved a state guarantee for a ₹2,944 crore loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. These funds are intended for the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme and the rejuvenation of the Musi River through reservoir filling.
By late October, the government shifted focus toward addressing immediate shortages caused by El Niño. The state sanctioned Rs. 120 crore to establish alternative drinking water arrangements in Singur and surrounding districts, such as Sangareddy and Medak, where reservoir levels have dropped significantly. Additional funds were allocated for immediate needs in other districts, alongside directives to utilize local water sources and implement conservation programs.
