Tenerife waste‑container arson

In late July 2026, residents of the El Sobradi­llo neighbourhood in Santa Cruz de Tenerife reported a series of intentional fires targeting municipal waste containers. On the night of the latest incident, four containers on Calle El Justillo were set ablaze and destroyed before firefighters could prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings. A second fire, likely arson, ignited a vehicle on nearby Calle Juan Rumeu García, prompting a rapid response from the island’s fire services and local police.

Local police, operating a special surveillance unit in the area, continue to investigate despite the recurring attacks. Residents have begun to avoid parking near the collection points and are demanding additional cameras and stricter enforcement.
