Terrorism investigations in Karnataka

Karnataka authorities have conducted multiple investigations into suspected terrorist activities and conspiracies within the state.

In late September, police arrested two individuals, Shabbir and Salman, in Chikkaballapur following an alleged conspiracy discussed on Telegram. Investigators examined communications regarding potential kidnappings to fund operations. During this period, political leaders called for increased security for specific officials, alleging a plot to assassinate prominent figures.

By mid-October, investigations expanded to include suspected links to the Pakistan-based organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. Police detained Mamtaz Mallik in Kalaburagi on suspicion of using social media platforms, such as WhatsApp and Instagram, to communicate with extremist networks. Authorities noted Mallik was reportedly part of a WhatsApp group linked to an individual alleged to be an LeT commander. This follows previous National Investigation Agency actions in the Bidar and Davanagere districts involving suspected online contact with foreign handlers.
