Thai Senate election integrity investigations

Investigations into the Thai Senate election process have surfaced allegations of fraud and irregular political influence. The iLaw project and members of the People's Party opposition whip conducted a seminar at Parliament to examine suspicious connections and professional discrepancies among candidates.

In Amnat Charoen, scrutiny was directed at Senator Somphan Phalasak regarding the legitimacy of his reported business experience. Investigators noted inconsistencies between his claims of running a chicken noodle business and digital evidence suggesting the location previously operated as a fitness center.

The controversy expanded to include allegations of election interference involving high-ranking officials. Data released by iLaw suggested that Senate candidates from Ang Thong province made phone calls to Paradon Prisnananthakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, and his brother, a Bhumjaithai Party MP, during the selection process. These calls reportedly occurred while candidates were under restrictions that required their mobile phones to be confiscated.

Paradon Prisnananthakul has denied these allegations, questioning the authenticity of the leaked call logs and suggesting the data may have been fabricated using AI or manual entry. He stated that the burden of proof lies with the accusers and expressed readiness to cooperate with official investigations if verifiable evidence is provided.
