The Game Awards 2026 eligibility discussions

Overview

Initial concerns were raised regarding whether Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) would be eligible for Game of the Year honors at The Game Awards 2026. Due to its scheduled release on November 19, industry observers noted that the awards' voting timeline, which often concludes in early November, might prevent jurors from having sufficient time to evaluate the title.

However, subsequent reports confirmed that GTA 6 meets the eligibility requirements for the ceremony, as the event requires games to be released by November 20. The 2026 awards, scheduled for December 10, are expected to feature several major titles, including GTA 6, Resident Evil Requiem, and a Legend of Zelda title. The selection process relies on an international jury of over 100 media outlets and content creators who submit confidential ballots to determine nominees.
