Law enforcement in Maceió, Brazil, has conducted operations targeting the theft and distribution of stolen goods. On August 12, the Integrated Force to Combat Organized Crime in Alagoas (FICCO/AL) launched Operation Dactilar to investigate the theft of equipment from Caixa Econômica Federal bank branches. This investigation focuses on identifying a network of receivers, with authorities executing search and seizure warrants at a prison facility to target a primary suspect. On August 17, the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security (Semsc) seized eight bags of energy cables in downtown Maceió. Maceió near the former Bompreço parking lot. Security Secretary Thiago Prado noted that the origin of the cables remains unidentified, but such thefts result in an estimated annual loss of R$ 200,000 to public funds and cause disruptions like the loss of street lighting. Authorities believe criminals use specific urban areas to hide stolen wires and strip their plastic coating before selling them to receivers. On September 14, the Municipal Department of Transport and Traffic (DMTT) reported a surge in thefts targeting traffic signals. Over a two-month period, more than 10 incidents involving copper cabling, repeater signal lights, and push buttons were recorded in the city center and the Poço neighborhood. DMTT President André Costa warned that these thefts pose critical risks of collisions and pedestrian accidents, while also causing traffic congestion and potentially delaying emergency services.
