Theft and organized crime investigations in Maceió

On August 17, the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security (Semsc) seized eight bags of energy cables in downtown Maceió. Security Secretary Thiago Prado noted that the origin of the cables remains unidentified, but such thefts result in an estimated annual loss of R$ 200,000 to public funds and cause disruptions like the loss of street lighting. Authorities believe criminals use specific urban areas to hide stolen wires and strip their plastic coating before selling them to receivers.
