Thefts of collectible trading cards
Overview
Recent incidents involving the theft of high-value collectible trading cards have been reported in different regions.
In Kerman, California, a 24-year-old man was arrested after a burglary at the Player’s Price TCG store. The suspect reportedly entered through the roof and a ventilation opening to steal over 100 high-value Pokémon cards, valued between $10,000 and $20,000. The individual was apprehended while allegedly attempting to sell the items and faces charges of grand theft and resisting arrest.
In Ladispoli, Italy, two masked thieves targeted the ‘Nena Store’, stealing rare Pokémon and One Piece cards. The total damage, including merchandise and structural destruction, is estimated at over 80,000 euros. The shop owners reported that the store’s smoke security system failed to prevent the crime. In response, the owners have launched a 50,000-euro fundraising campaign and have begun sleeping at the shop to protect remaining stock.
