Thessaloniki hotel balcony fall incident
Overview
A 13-year-old girl remains in serious condition at Hippokrateio Hospital in Thessaloniki after falling from a fifth-floor hotel balcony in the Vardaris/Agioi Pantes area around 4:00 AM on Monday.
Preliminary police investigations indicate the minor was in a hotel room with two men from Afghanistan. When a hotel employee discovered the minor's presence and knocked on the door, the girl and the two men reportedly attempted to flee via the balcony or a drainpipe. The girl sustained multiple fractures during the fall, potentially striking a building awning which may have mitigated the impact. The two men managed to escape.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate the men. A criminal case is being prepared against one of the individuals for causing grievous bodily harm, which may be classified as a felony. Police continue to collect statements from hotel staff and witnesses to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
