The Thessaly Regional Authority continues to execute development projects focused on infrastructure, agriculture, and public health. Recent efforts include urban and rural improvements, such as the creation of a bioclimatic neighborhood park on Aleuadōn Street in Larissa and the construction of rural roads in the Tsaritsani area of Elassona to support the agricultural economy. Strategic priorities have increasingly shifted toward public health. As part of the Regional Development Program 2026–2030, the region has prioritized hospital infrastructure, including a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at the University Hospital of Larissa. Plans are also underway for a 1,300-square-meter Day Hospital and Outpatient Chemotherapy building in Larissa. Significant funding has been allocated for medical technology. A 6 million euro funding call for hospitals in Volos, Karditsa, Trikala, and Larissa brings the total investment for the 2025–2026 period to approximately 20 million euros. Furthermore, approximately 3.99 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Fund has been earmarked for upgrades, including a 3T MRI scanner in Larissa, a digital X-ray machine in Volos, and various chemotherapy and gastroenterology systems in Trikala. Recent developments include a nearly €4 million investment, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, to enhance clinical and laboratory capabilities in Volos, Larissa, and Trikala. Implemented through the National Central Authority for Health Procurement (EKAPY), these upgrades include a new digital X-ray machine and portable ventilators at Achillopouleio Hospital (Volos), an angiograph and artificial kidney machine at the General Hospital of Larissa, and a gastroenterology system at the General Hospital of Trikala. In addition to medical advancements, the region has addressed administrative and safety infrastructure. The vehicle fleet renewal in the Larissa regional unit is complete, with 13 modern vehicles acquired to replace a fleet over 25 years old. Additionally, over 364,000 euros has been approved for road safety technical works in Larissa, targeting surface restoration and the installation of safety barriers.
