Tierra del Fuego industrial sector developments

Overview

Industrial activity in Tierra del Fuego is experiencing both sector-specific developments and broader economic challenges. In the electronics and manufacturing sector, the Special Customs Area Commission (CAAE) has been evaluating production processes, such as the manufacturing of air conditioning units. While some companies are planning new product launches, the labor union UOMRA has formally rejected new production sequences and signaled intent to defend its rights.

Simultaneously, the regional textile industry is facing a significant crisis. Local manufacturers report approximately 850 job losses driven by declining domestic consumption, increased imports, and the expansion of Chinese e-commerce platforms, which reportedly control nearly 40% of the garment market. Industry leaders have cited unfair competition from the under-invoicing of imported goods and high idle capacity in local factories, reflecting a wider national trend of declining textile production and job losses in Argentina.
