Togo agricultural and livestock development

Togo is implementing strategic agricultural development initiatives focused on livestock, fisheries, and professional training to enhance food sovereignty and economic productivity.

In the Oti prefecture, livestock farmers recently completed a five-day training program in Mango regarding bovine, caprine, and ovine fattening techniques, animal nutrition, and marketing. Supported by the Savanes Regional Chamber of Agriculture and the National Fund for Apprenticeship, Training, and Professional Development, the program emphasized practical skills such as deworming and vaccination to combat diseases like plague. The goal is to shift local production from herd size to market value and productivity.

On a broader scale, the government has prioritized animal health through the vaccination of 12.5 million animals to secure meat and milk production. Simultaneously, the state is transitioning the fisheries sector from traditional methods to advanced aquaculture by providing fingerlings and floating cages. These efforts are paired with human capital investments to train professionals capable of managing and transforming these agricultural sectors.
