Togo agricultural sector developments
Overview
In October 2026, Togo’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Resources and Food Sovereignty (MAPRASA) issued a warning regarding fraudulent schemes targeting farmers and entrepreneurs. Scammers reportedly used fake administrative documents and social media platforms to solicit upfront “processing fees” or “legal fees” in exchange for promised subsidies.
Concurrently, the Togolese government introduced a draft agricultural orientation law containing 18 measures to reorganize the sector. This reform bill proposes the creation of a National Agricultural Development Fund to support investment in irrigation and equipment. The legislation also aims to professionalize the industry through technical support, promote contract farming, and establish a Higher Council for Agricultural Orientation to coordinate producers and traders.
