National Geographic’s three‑part series, launched on Disney+ on 23 July 2026 and aired on National Geographic from 26 July, is billed as “Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston”. Co‑created and presented by the Cambridge classics graduate, the programme follows three dramatized Romans—a teenage bronze‑smith apprentice, a businesswoman, and an unnamed Praetorian guard—to illustrate the roughly 24‑hour window residents had to make life‑changing decisions before Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. Hiddleston, who first visited the ruins at age 17 while filming “Loki”, acts as a “time detective”, linking modern archaeological evidence, expert interviews and geologic analysis with scripted reenactments. The series also incorporates high‑resolution aerial footage captured by a Ravenna‑based drone crew (Valerio Marano, Marado, Gianluca Rovituso, Marco Barberini of IAS – Capturing Reality). Sunrise overflights of the excavation site were integrated into promotional material aired on Good Morning America and other outlets, adding a contemporary visual dimension and the drone team also filmed influencer visits to the historic narrative. site, providing real‑time clips for those broadcasts. It entered Disney+’s global Top 10, ranked fifth on Portugal’s national viewership charts shortly after release, and was premiered at the British Museum. In a CNN Brasil interview, Hiddleston said the project marks his first experience presenting a story as himself.
