In early July 2026, 2026 Toronto police uncovered a large‑scale gun‑for‑hire network that carried out at least 27 shootings against Jewish sites, including synagogues, a Jewish school, the U.S. consulate and a waste‑management firm. The attackers were recruited through encrypted messaging apps and paid roughly $1,000 in cryptocurrency per attack; investigators suspect a foreign entity may be involved, though no attribution has been confirmed. Later in the month the city saw a series of hate‑motivated incidents at the Jewish‑owned Kiva’s Bagel Bar.
