Toronto anti‑Jewish hate attacks
Entities: Noah Shack · Olivia Chow · Doug Ford · Mark Carney · Scott Bradbury
Overview
In early July 2026 Toronto police uncovered a gun‑for‑hire network that carried out at least 27 shootings against Jewish sites, including synagogues, a Jewish school, the U.S. consulate and a waste‑management firm. The attackers were recruited through encrypted messaging apps and paid roughly $1,000 in cryptocurrency per attack; investigators suspect a foreign entity may be involved, though no attribution has been confirmed.
On July 26‑27 2026 two Kiva’s Bagel Bar locations were hit: gunfire shattered a window at the Yonge Street/ St Clair Avenue West shop, while a second outlet on Bathurst Street/ Steeles Avenue West sustained a broken window without gunfire. No injuries were reported. Police released an image of a dark‑coloured SUV linked to both incidents and continue to solicit public tips.
The Hate Crime Unit and the Integrated Guns and Gangs Task Force are treating all incidents as hate‑motivated. Mayor Olivia Chow, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Doug Ford have condemned the attacks and pledged additional protection for the Jewish community. Investigations remain ongoing, with possible foreign involvement still under review.
