Overview
In July 2026, a cryptocurrency exchange owner was allegedly abducted at gunpoint, handcuffed, and assaulted in Toronto near Finch Avenue East and Bayview Avenue. The motive for the kidnapping was reportedly to gain access to the victim’s digital assets and business security systems.
Toronto Police have charged seven individuals in connection with the incident, including three members of the Canadian Armed Forces associated with the 7th Toronto Regiment. Investigators found that the suspects used approximately 2,500 rounds of ammunition and five over-capacity magazines that were allegedly stolen from the military.
Police seized various items during searches, including four firearms—some with 3D-printed components—silencers, drugs, and over 2,700 rounds of ammunition. A total of 82 charges have been filed, encompassing kidnapping for ransom, unlawful confinement, conspiracy, firearm possession, and drug trafficking.
