A Coruña is seeing significant growth in its tourism sector, driven by both maritime arrivals and municipal tax revenue. The Port of A Coruña has expanded its leisure and cultural activities, with revenue from such events increasing from roughly 200,000 euros in 2022 to nearly 400,000 euros in 2025. This growth is supported by the Marta Ortega Foundation, which pays approximately 240,000 euros annually to host exhibitions. The port also continues to host large-scale maritime tourism, including major cruise ship arrivals. Complementing this, the city collected over 1.04 million euros in tourist tax during the first half of 2026, exceeding initial projections. Revenue is primarily generated by hotels (72%), cruise passengers (20%), and tourist rentals (8%). Municipal spokesperson José Manuel Lage described the results as “very positive,” noting that the tax has not deterred visitors. The city intends to allocate 80% of these funds to public services and 20% to the Tourism Consortium to promote the city as a major destination. Regarding fiscal projections, the city expects total annual tourist tax revenue to reach approximately 2.5 million euros. These funds are earmarked for public services including cleaning, security, and the maintenance of green spaces. In September 2026, the city hosted GRAVITEO, a major urban sports festival held at La Marina and O Parrote. The event, held from September 18 to 20, featured the Spanish Parkour Championship alongside international and Galician speed climbing and boulder competitions, including the Psicobloc Master Series. Organized with support from the Xunta de Galicia and local authorities, the festival drew thousands of spectators. In the parkour championships, Alicia García won two gold medals in the freestyle and speed categories. The festival concluded with the Open Gallego Juvenil and featured American climbing star Chris Sharma as an ambassador.
