Tourism development in Sinop, Brazil

Overview

Sinop is expanding its tourism profile through specialized itineraries and national research initiatives. The city recently hosted a group of 26 seniors from Cuiabá as part of the ‘Circuito Mato-grossense da Longevidade’, a tour designed for individuals over 60 that integrated culture, gastronomy, and nature across the Agro Corridor.

Building on these local efforts, Sinop has been selected as one of only 50 municipalities in Brazil to participate in the National Tourism Demand Survey (PNDT). Alongside Cuiabá, Sinop is the only city in Mato Grosso included in this national initiative. Managed by Itaipu Parquetec in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and executed by the Brazilian Network of Tourism Observatories (RBOT), the survey involves fieldwork at local airports, shopping centers, and water parks to collect data on visitor profiles, spending, and travel motivations.

The study specifically seeks to map travel habits and perceptions regarding transportation, accommodation, and motivations such as business, nature, and sports fishing. The resulting data is intended to bolster the city’s Tourism Intelligence Platform to attract investment and improve management through strategic planning and public policy.
