Tourism trends in João Pessoa

Overview

João Pessoa has emerged as one of the top five most sought-after travel destinations in Brazil for the final quarter of 2026. According to a survey by the flight search engine Viajala, the capital of Paraíba rose to the 5th position, up from 7th in 2025.

Notably, João Pessoa is the only destination among the top five to see a decrease in average airfare prices. Round-trip tickets dropped by 12.3%, falling from R$ 1,911 in 2025 to R$ 1,676 in 2026. In contrast, other major destinations like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador saw price increases.

Ferdinando Lucena, president of PBTur, stated that the growth in demand for the capital benefits the entire state. The surge in interest is attributed to upcoming holidays during the October to December period, which are expected to encourage short trips of up to three days.
