Toyota and Isuzu hydrogen fuel cell bus launch
Overview
Toyota and Isuzu have launched a new generation of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) route buses, including the Toyota Sora and the Isuzu Erga FCEV. This collaboration utilizes Isuzu’s full-flat electric vehicle platform combined with Toyota’s fuel cell technology.
The new models feature a roof-mounted fuel cell system and hydrogen tanks to maintain a flat cabin floor for improved accessibility. Technical specifications for the new Sora include a driving range of over 300 km, which is an increase of approximately 100 km over the previous version, despite a 20% reduction in total hydrogen tank capacity. The system provides a combined power output of up to 299 PS and 970 Nm of torque.
Safety and accessibility features include an Emergency Driver Stop System (EDSS) to handle driver health emergencies, front blind-spot monitors, and optional one-touch wheelchair securing devices.
