Toyota Sienna Hybrid seat recliner recalls
Overview
Toyota has issued recalls for Sienna Hybrid minivans across North America due to a defect in the second-row seat reclining mechanisms.
In Canada, approximately 24,454 vehicles from the 2022 to 2026 model years are affected. Transport Canada reported that the locking mechanisms may disengage during a collision when seatbelt pretensioners activate, potentially causing seatbacks to move unexpectedly and increasing injury risks. The remedy involves a software update to the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit.
In the United States, the recall is broader, affecting 228,367 seven-passenger models from the 2022–2026 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) noted that forces from seatbelt pretensioners during a collision can cause the mechanism to disengage or oscillate, leaving seatbacks unsecured. Toyota is providing two remedies: a software update for most vehicles and a replacement of both second-row seat backs for those equipped with the Toyota Mobility as a Service (MaaS) package.
