Reports from Turkey indicate a series of fatal traffic accidents and incidents of road violence involving pedestrians and drivers. Fatalities and serious injuries have been recorded in several provinces. In Karaman, a motorcycle collision resulted in two deaths, including a 16-year-old girl. In Balıkesir, a 14-year-old girl was killed and another child was seriously injured after being struck by a car. Recent reports have added further fatalities to this list, including two deaths in a motorcycle and car crash in Mardin and the death of a cyclist in Balıkesir’s Burhaniye district following a collision involving two cars. In Kırıkkale, a 17-year-old passenger died after a car overturned. In Kocaeli, legal proceedings have intensified following a violent incident involving 17-year-old Aslı Kara. On August 10, driver Sertaç Demir struck Kara as she walked home from work. Security footage indicates that after the initial collision, Demir stopped the vehicle but then moved forward again, running over Kara a second time before fleeing. Kara remains in intensive care at Kocaeli City Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Demir was subsequently re-detained and arrested following a prosecutor’s objection. The victim’s family has alleged that the driver was intoxicated and has characterized the incident as “an attempted murder rather than a simple accident.” Recent fatal incidents include a minibus overturning in Diyarbakır’s Lice district, which resulted in five deaths and 11 injuries, and a collision on the Ankara-Eskişehir highway that killed three people, including teacher Medine Efeoğlu Doğan. In Istanbul, a collision between a transport truck and a light commercial vehicle on the Kuzey Marmara Highway in Uskumruköy killed three siblings: Yusuf, Mehmet Ali, and Ecrin İçen. In Hatay, a head-on collision between a worker shuttle and a İçen; their parents were also seriously injured. The truck killed one person and injured 15. driver, Emrullah A., stated, “I didn't see it, I stepped on the brake but couldn't stop.”
