Kara remains in intensive care at Kocaeli City Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Demir was subsequently re-detained and arrested following a prosecutor’s objection. The victim’s family has alleged that the driver was intoxicated and has characterized the incident as “an attempted murder rather than a simple accident.” Recent fatal incidents include a minibus overturning in Diyarbakır’s Lice district, which resulted in five deaths and 11 injuries, and a collision on the Ankara-Eskişehir highway that killed three people, including teacher Medine Efeoğlu Doğan. In Istanbul, a collision between a transport truck and a light commercial vehicle on the Kuzey Marmara Highway in Uskumruköy killed three siblings: Yusuf, Mehmet Ali, and Ecrin İçen; their parents were also seriously injured. The truck driver, Emrullah A., stated, “I didn't see it, I stepped on the brake but couldn't stop.”
