A series of vehicle accidents at the Limina tunnel on the A2/Jonio-Tirreno highway has caused significant traffic disruptions near Reggio Calabria.
On August 3, a violent frontal collision between two large vehicles inside the tunnel ignited a fire. Rescue teams used hydraulic tools to extract two people, including a woman in serious condition. The incident required the closure of the tunnel and adjoining highway segments for safety checks and cleanup.
On August 22, a separate accident occurred in the late afternoon when a car veered into the opposite lane and struck side protections. A heavy vehicle also obstructed the remaining lane, blocking traffic in both directions. While no serious injuries were reported in this later incident, local authorities worked to clear the scene to alleviate delays for travelers.
