Traffic accidents in Caracas

A series of traffic accidents in Caracas has resulted in multiple casualties and injuries.

On September 23, a public transport bus lost control on Avenida Fuerzas Armadas and struck the gate of the ‘El Manantial de la Revolución’ residential building, causing at least six injuries.

Two days later, on September 25, a heavy cargo truck, described as a ‘gandola’, suffered brake failure near El Junquito, leading to a massive multi-vehicle collision in the La Yaguara sector. The out-of-control vehicle struck approximately 12 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and public transportation units, as well as pedestrians. The impact caused significant damage and a fuel spill at the scene.

The official death toll from the truck accident reached at least three people, with 16 others injured. Many of the injured were transported to the Hospital Dr. Miguel Pérez Carreño for emergency treatment. Local authorities, including Caracas Mayor Carmen Meléndez and the Caracas Fire Department, deployed emergency services to manage the scene and clear the roadway. The driver of the heavy truck has been detained as investigations continue into the mechanical failure.
