Traffic incidents in Punto Fijo, Venezuela, have escalated from a non-fatal collision to a fatal accident involving allegations of reckless driving. On September 2, a two-vehicle collision occurred in the Andrés Eloy Blanco sector involving a Centauro and a Daewoo. On September 6, a 26-year-old delivery driver, driver Enyerbert Daniel Sibada Chirino, Chirino was killed after being struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser near the Alí Primera Intercomunal in the Las Margaritas sector. The driver of the Land Cruiser, driver, 21-year-old Ángel Emilio Martínez, was allegedly seen in social media videos performing reckless maneuvers and street racing. In response to the fatality, colleagues of the victim organized a protest at the Curva de Sabino to demand justice. By September 8, Martínez was ordered into pretrial detention at the Coro Penitentiary Community for 45 days. He faces accusations of intentional homicide under the doctrine of ‘dolo eventual’.
