Traffic management in Uttarakhand tourist hubs

Overview

Dehradun Police have introduced a specialized traffic and parking management strategy to handle anticipated crowds in the tourist hubs of Mussoorie, Rishikesh, and Chakrata between October 17 and 19, 2026.

The plan utilizes tiered response levels—Plan A, B, and C—to mitigate congestion from visitors arriving from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. For those traveling to Mussoorie, Plan A directs traffic through specific bypasses and checkpoints, while Plan B provides alternative routes through Circuit House Tiraha and Kimadi. If parking in Mussoorie reaches 90% capacity, vehicles will be halted at Kinkreg.

In the Rishikesh and Tapovan areas, Plan A manages traffic from the Haridwar Highway through Saptarishi and Natraj Chowk. Under high-pressure Plan B conditions, vehicles will be rerouted via Nepali Farm, Lalatappad, and Bhaniawala. Emergency services and vehicles transporting essential goods, such as fuel and milk, are exempt from these diversions.
