June–August 2026 saw a wave of temporary public‑transport changes across the Balkans as cities carried out road, tram, water‑works and utility upgrades. In Belgrade, road works on Nedeljka Gvozdenovića (8–17 July, then 18 July–7 August) and on Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra (6–12 July) forced detours for dozens of bus lines and the suspension of tram lines 2 and 11 on Karađorđeva Street (21 June–1 September). Looking ahead, Belgrade is preparing for the construction of a new metro station, which will require the demolition of the Staklenac shopping center by the end of the year. This project will also necessitate the temporary relocation of the Bajloni market to Dunavska Street; the planned station is expected to feature a platform at a depth of 33 meters. Zagreb continued its intensive summer programme. Major road closures on Vukovarska (June–Sept) and the Vukovarske–Savska intersection (6 July–31 August) were paired with a €3.8 million water‑pipe replacement and a €1.2 million tram‑turning‑box upgrade. Tram line 5 now terminates at Kvaternikov trg, line 7 is rerouted through New Zagreb, and lines 4, 5, 14 and 17 run altered routes. The city also progressed the €25 million Sarajevska Road expansion and the €1.36 million renovation of the central bus station. Ongoing tramway improvements include a two‑phase, €3 million reconstruction of the Zvonimirova Street corridor, with completion slated for 7 September 2026. Additionally, a €3.1 million initiative for tramway infrastructure upgrades involves replacing damaged concrete elements and paving over a two‑year period, with works potentially scheduled for nights, weekends, and holidays to minimize disruption. In Donji Mihaljevec, the demolition of a historic railway station building commenced on 18 August following several years of delays. In Romania, Cluj‑Napoca rerouted several bus and trolleybus lines from 8 June while a temporary bridge over Someșul Mic was repaired.
