Travel agency fraud against Yucatán youth soccer team
Overview
Families of the Yucatán B youth soccer team have accused the Cancún-based travel agency Mayacorptrips of a major fraud involving nearly 500,000 pesos in payments. The agency was contracted to transport approximately 50 to 55 people to a national championship in Tijuana between October 21 and 27.
According to the affected families, the agency provided boarding passes that were later found to be invalid, and airline personnel informed travelers that reservations had been canceled by the agency rather than due to overbooking. Of the 18 players selected for the tournament, only six reached Tijuana, where they also encountered issues with promised hotel accommodations.
Following these events, parents filed a formal complaint with the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office against Mayacorptrips and its owner, Mayra Sánchez Altamirano. The complainants allege that while the owner appeared at the airport to provide information, the documentation provided did not correspond to confirmed services.
