Overview

Turkey has initiated the reconstruction of the 10th-century Ani Bridge, a historic Silk Road structure spanning the Akhuryan River on the border with Armenia. Following a completed tender process, the Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister announced that the reconstruction contract has been signed.

The project aims to restore the medieval stone bridge, which has only its supports remaining since its arch collapsed in 1807. Restoration efforts will be managed through a joint commission established under a protocol signed in Yerevan, serving as a step in the normalization process between the two nations. The site, which includes the bridge, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
