Turkey-Georgia security and extradition cooperation

Overview

Turkey and Georgia have intensified their security cooperation to combat transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, and irregular migration. Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi visited Tbilisi to meet with Georgian Interior Minister Sulkhan Tamazashvili, focusing on the threat posed by digital-age criminal organizations.

Cooperation efforts have resulted in the extradition or deportation of 866 individuals to Turkey, with 438 cases occurring in 2026. A joint operation conducted on August 23-24 led to the apprehension of 22 suspects listed on Interpol red notices, 11 of whom were immediately extradited to Turkey.

To sustain these efforts, the Turkish Police Academy and the Georgian Public Security and Police Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance academic and operational ties, expanding training and scientific cooperation between their respective security commands.
