Turkey journalist drone training

Overview

In late July 2026, Turkey’s Presidential Communication Presidency announced a second‑edition “İHA‑1 Commercial Pilot Training and Certification Program” for journalists, to be held in Konya from 3 – 6 August. The 32‑hour course, run with KTO Karatay University and approved by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, would cover air law, meteorology, flight dynamics, avionics, simulator work and on‑site flight exercises, granting participants an ICAO‑recognised commercial pilot certificate and radio‑communication licence.

Organisers highlighted the benefits of enabling journalists to conduct aerial reporting safely, legally and efficiently, especially in hazardous or hard‑to‑reach locations, and included a visit to the university’s pilot training facilities.
