Following extensive consultations by the Defence Commission, a draft law to improve support for families of martyrs and veterans was prepared and debated. By early August 2024, a joint AK Party‑MHP amendment was approved by the TBMM Defence Commission, amending the Civil Servants Pension Law with nine articles. These included guaranteeing a minimum monthly payment to parents of deceased personnel at least equal to the net minimum wage, raising extra‑care allowances for severely dependent veterans to 2.5 times the minimum wage, increasing monthly allowances for various categories of disabled personnel, and extending the re‑examination age from 41 to 55. In late July 2026, a new 12-article bill was drafted to insert the term “martyr” into official population registers, replace “deceased” with “martyr,” and create a new status for seriously wounded security personnel.
